Over on TheSpoils.com messageboards there was a question from Zombiegod13 about the state of Spoils. He mentions the following, "I'm slowly becoming broken-hearted by card games being discontinued so here I am, testing the water..." I thought it would be worth while to share a snippet of the thread that was from the top dog over at Arcane Tinmen.
Here is Michael's response:
What we at Arcane Tinmen bring to the table is stability and the promise to be in this for the long run. As one of the poster below mentioned our personal affection for game along with the potential of The Spoils being so great means we can live with just breaking even for a long while still; just as long as we see some forward movement, which we are constantly seeing. Add to this that Arcane Tinmen has been around for more than ten years and doesn't have to rely on The Spoils to succeed right away, but that we have the time and patience to grow this properly. So personally I am not worried.
We wouldn’t mind of course if the pace was faster and that the game was spreading like wildfire. But reality is as you also convey in your post, that many people are wary of “yet another trading card game” and it takes a lot of effort to convince people. One of the good things is that once people try on The Spoils, most of them are hooked.
It is a slow albeit steady climb.
As for dedication we are currently working on several new sets:
• Reprint of the core set (1st edition + Part-2) which will be out sometime before summer this year – and while this does not bring new cards to the table, then it can certainly be viewed as a statement of stability and shows that we are investing a nice chunk of time and money into The Spoils.
• Pink Harvest which is actually also dubbed Seed III (so there I have spoiled some news for everybody ) – a smaller set that finalizes the storyline of this timeline. This will also be out during the first half of this year.
• And then we have just finished up on the storyline for the next expansion group after this – and I am very happy with what our writers have created! So the next sets are slowly beginning to take shape as well, but still much too soon for me to set a firm date though. As mentioend by the other posters we are cautious not promising anything unless we know 100% that we can deliver, so that is the reason I am not thrwoing dates out there before we are certain that they fully valid.
So lots of good things are in the making. To this you can add our weekly organized play events called “Afternoon Saturday Spoils”, National Championships, Winter Limited Championships, showing at events like GenCon, GAMA, Origins and many more.
So there it is. We are very cautious in promising to bring you the world tomorrow. But we are constantly working on The Spoils – and we are prepared to put both time, muscle and money behind this to make it work. Will we be able to deliver everything so that Spoils will still be around for many years to come? Of course we cannot issue any die-hard guarantees to this - but I can honestly say that wholeheartedly believe so!
Hope that I have helped put some comfort in your heart – and that you will want to take The Spoils out for another spin. As said in one of the other posts, don’t put all your eggs into our basket, but ease your way into the game again. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
The good fight lives on!
Michael
